The media fraternity in the Ashanti Region has been thrown into mourning following reports of the death of Akwasi Owusu Achiaw, a respected news anchor with OTEC 102.9 FM in Kumasi.
The sad news, which began circulating on social media on December 26,2025, has since been confirmed by colleagues at OTEC FM and members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ashanti Region, who have expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
Akwasi Owusu Achiaw was widely known for his calm delivery, professionalism, and dedication to credible journalism. He served as a news anchor at OTEC FM for several years and was admired by listeners and colleagues alike for his commitment to truth, balance, and ethical reporting.
In a statement, the GJA Ashanti Region described his death as a significant loss to the journalism profession, noting that he played an important role in informing and educating the public through his work on radio.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow journalists, media practitioners, and listeners, many of whom have taken to social media to share fond memories and express condolences to his family and the management of OTEC FM.
