Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Tuesday afternoon removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku in line with recommendations contained in the mediation report presented by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
The action, which forms part of government efforts to restore calm and stability in the area, was carried out under heightened security. According to an official press release issued by the Ministry of the Interior, the move was undertaken to support the implementation of the roadmap outlined by the Otumfuo-led mediation committee.
The statement, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), assured the public that Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe and currently under the care of state security agencies.
“The removal was executed pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair,” the statement noted.
The Bawku conflict, rooted in longstanding chieftaincy disputes, has led to recurring violence and insecurity in the area over the years. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was tasked by the government to lead mediation efforts aimed at finding a lasting solution acceptable to all parties.
Government has reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the mediation recommendations and called on residents and stakeholders in Bawku to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure sustained peace.
