A total of 68 foreign nationals have been repatriated from Ghana’s Ashanti Region to their respective home countries following various court decisions involving criminal offences, Ghana’s Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed.
The group comprises 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, seven Beninese, three Ivorians, and three Burkinabe nationals. The repatriation followed convictions and court rulings linked to offences including alleged involvement in Q-Net-related activities, prostitution, and other criminal acts.
The exercise was carried out by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with the courts and other security agencies, in line with Ghana’s immigration laws and established legal procedures.
Commenting on the development, Dr Frank Amoakohene commended the Ghana Immigration Service for what he described as its professionalism, diligence, and firm commitment to enforcing the country’s immigration regulations. He noted that the process was conducted with due regard for human dignity and legal safeguards.
According to him, the coordinated efforts of the Immigration Service, the judiciary, and security agencies continue to play a critical role in maintaining public safety, protecting vulnerable persons, and ensuring law and order within the region.
The Ghana Immigration Service has reiterated its resolve to clamp down on illegal activities involving foreign nationals, while assuring the public that all actions are guided by the rule of law and respect for human rights.
