The final mediation by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, aimed at settling the long-running chieftaincy dispute in Bawku, concludes today at the Manhyia Palace.
The mediation — launched earlier this year at the request of John Dramani Mahama’s administration — began in April 2025, when Asantehene met representatives from the feuding factions to revive dialogue and seek peaceful resolution. Although talks were temporarily suspended in May, they resumed in mid-May, after which Asantehene noted the region had experienced a relative period of calm.
Today’s session marks the culmination of months of intensive consultations, traditional diplomacy, and peace-building efforts in a conflict that for decades has disrupted lives, livelihoods, and security in Bawku.
Supporters of the process — including members of parliament from neighbouring areas — have appealed to all parties in Bawku to accept Asantehene’s ruling and embrace reconciliation for lasting peace.
As the final pronouncement is delivered, many eyes across the region and nation will be on the outcome — hopeful that this intervention will usher in a new era of stability, unity, and development for Bawku.
