An attempt to challenge the chieftaincy status of Nana Samgba Gyafla II has failed after the High Court in Kumasi on Wednesday December 17,2025 rejected applications aimed at removing him from the National Register of Chiefs.
The legal action was initiated by Farouk Ahmed, popularly known as Sammordua, alongside the Dormaahene. They argued that Nana Samgba Gyafla II should no longer be recognised as chief of the Sampa Traditional Council and requested that his name be struck off the official register.
However, the court was not convinced by the arguments placed before it. After evaluating the case, the judge ruled that the applications lacked legal basis and dismissed them in full.
The decision leaves Nana Samgba Gyafla II’s status untouched, affirming his recognition under Ghana’s chieftaincy laws and constitutional framework. It also highlights the authority of the National Register of Chiefs as the body responsible for documenting and validating traditional leadership across the country.
Legal analysts say the ruling strengthens the role of statutory institutions in resolving chieftaincy disputes and brings renewed certainty to traditional governance in the Sampa area.
