His Majesty’s trip is in connection with two significant events — the GUBA Awards 2025 in Barbados and the Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Suriname.
The GUBA (Grow Unite Build Africa) Awards is one of the most prestigious platforms that celebrate African excellence across the globe. This year’s edition, to be held in Barbados, seeks to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between Africa and the Caribbean, recognizing outstanding individuals and institutions that contribute to the Pan-African vision of unity, progress, and empowerment.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who has been an unwavering advocate for African unity and development, is expected to be a special guest of honor at the awards ceremony. His attendance not only underscores the strong historical connection between Africa and the Caribbean but also symbolizes the Asante Kingdom’s continued influence on global platforms promoting African heritage.
Following the GUBA Awards, the Asantehene will proceed to Suriname, where he has been invited to grace the country’s Independence Day celebrations. Suriname, with its rich African heritage and ancestral trace to the Asante Kingdom, is marking another year of freedom and nationhood, and the presence of the Asante Monarch adds deep cultural significance to the occasion.
The visit also highlights Otumfuo’s diplomatic role in fostering international relations between Ghana, the Caribbean, and South America. It serves as a reminder of the enduring link between Africa and its diaspora — a bond rooted in shared history, resilience, and identity.
Asantehene’s delegation includes key palace officials and traditional leaders who will engage in cultural exchanges, heritage discussions, and bilateral meetings aimed at promoting collaboration in education, tourism, and trade.
The trip once again places the Golden Stool and the Asante Kingdom at the heart of global cultural diplomacy, showcasing Ghana’s royal legacy to the world.
